"Boyhood" is incredible. This gripping tale tells the story of a boy named Mason, played by Ellar Coltrane. We first meet Mason when he is about six years old, and we see him grow up in Texas. Through multiple families, his mother and father going through a divorce, meeting new friends, going to new schools, and growing up we see him blossom into a fulfilling young man. It is touching to see how great he overcomes his struggles into becoming a a great person regardless of all of the struggles he endured. Having a strong balance of his mother, played by Patricia Arquette, and his father, played by Ethan Hawke, he figures out what he wants to do with his life.
This film is so great because of how much time passes, and how they portray it. The film takes place over 12 years but we are never told exactly what year it is. Through music, hairstyles, new settings, and aging of people we can see that time has past. It is a gripping story of growing up. This film is extremely long, but you almost do not want it to end. The story is so exciting, and captivating, you want to know how it ends. And yes you are at the theater for almost three hours, but this film took about thirteen years to make, maybe even longer. It is deserving to watch how amazing, twelve years of somebody's family has turned out. This film is outstanding, and is a pleasure to watch.
